BIOGRAPHY
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
I joined the club in 2004 when my son Tom was 4 years old and wanted to start playing football with his friends. Before I knew it I was running a team!

I quickly realised that the club had great facilities and was run by decent people, who were dedicated to providing football to the children of Burton Joyce and the surrounding area in a happy, safe environment. I therefore undertook my FA Level 1 Course in February 2006 and became more actively involved in the club.

My team finally entered the YEL Saturday League at the under 8's age group during the 2007/8 season and went on to win the league! This was mainly because they had been playing for 3 years before playing a competitive match! Perhaps they had more desire than most of the other newly formed teams in the league!

I was happy to become Chairman of the club in the summer of 2008 when the Chairman at the time, Trevor Harris, stepped down and I passed on the running of the now under 9's team to my good friend Ted Towers. Always best to quit management at the top!

BJJFC is a great club to be involved with and I am proud to be club chairman. We have lots of hard working volunteers who ensure that the players play the game in the right manner. Yes, we want to win, but not at any cost. The main objective is for the kids to play with a smile on their faces and to really enjoy participating in our wonderful game. In the main we achieve this and the club continues to go from strength to strength, continuing the good work that Dave Wright started in 1990. BJJFC obtained the FA Charter Standard Status in December 2008 and for the forthcoming season (2009/10) it's anticipated that we will have more teams representing the club than ever before. We have teams from under 6's right the way up to veterans. This new club website is another step forward in the continuing process of modernising the club.

On a personal note, having been born and bred within walking distance of Maine Rd, my footballing allegiances are naturally with Manchester City. Ever since my dad first took me there in the early 1970's I was hooked. I've now gone over 30 years without seeing City win a trophy! However, I was at Wembley in 1976 to see City win the League Cup, with that famous winning goal coming from Dennis Tueart's overhead kick. OK I can hear the under 40's saying 'who's he?'

Matters are not helped with the success that our neighbours have enjoyed in recent years! Infact, I am still trying to persuade the Club Committee to impose a club ban on Man United tops within the club! Watch this space!

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
